Below is Martin as we arrive in the rose garden at Washington Park.
The statue below is called" The Coming of the White Man" and was created in 1904 by Hermon Atkins MacNeil who later designed a quarter that was minted in 1916.
This is the view behind us as we enter the park from a hidden staircase in NW Portland.
I love these climbing pink roses that a lamp post is the trellis, absolutely beautiful.
View of Mt. Hood from the Rose Garden at Washington Park. This shows the many colors planted through out the garden.
Here I am as we head through the park back into the neighborhoods for our walk back to the car.
Above is the classic Portland Oregon photo of Mt. Hood taken from Washington Park. Below is the granite monument at the formal entrance to Washington Park. This is dedicated to Lewis and Clark who gave the "pioneers a pathway to Oregon". There is a small time capsule buried beneath the column which contains objects from 1903.
Above is a 34 foot bronze sculpture of Sacajawea the Shoshone translator who aided Lewis and Clark in their exploration of the Pacific Northwest. This sculpture was erected in 1905 and was meant to honor the pioneer women of Oregon. It was paid for and sculpted by women and was part of the Lewis and Clark Exposition of 1905.
This is Martin at the Oregon Holocaust Memorial which was placed in Washington Park in 2004. Neither Martin nor I had seen this memorial since it was opened in the park. I think the plaque below says it all.
Long hike on an extremely beautiful day, we took our time to appreciate everything we saw and the people we met along the way!
