Above is John Hopkins Glacier, the only way to get here is by boat and this is the first time this season that the ships were allowed to venture into John Hopkins inlet to get there. Impressive isn't enough of a word to describe what we saw. This glacier is one that is continuing to grow! Nice that global warming hasn't done it in. Below is Martin on the bow of the ship that was opened so we could take it all in. Martin was happy that we bought him that warm coat before we left.
The weather was really labile. It changed from minute to minute. It did present the opportunity for viewing many rainbows.
The clouds cleared away and we could really see what had been hidden in Glacier Bay. So beautiful and incredibly pristine.
Below is Lamplugh Glacier that we passed on our way to John Hopkins. You can really see the glacier blue in the ice. This is the only place in nature that this color occurs naturally.
More gorgeous peaks, so many in one place, it was hard to know where to look.
Below is an ice formation that looks like a flower that is a part of John Hopkins Glacier.
If you look at the piece of ice below you will see about 20 seals snoozing after a hard day of catching fish. Unbelievable that the ship didn't disturb them.
This is how we spent our Tuesday. Today we spent the day in Juneau. More blogging to follow.
