Glasgow, July 1, 2016

Glasgow, our first Scottish city, and a great one to start with.  We didn't take an excursion here, but did take a bus from the ship, which was about 45 minutes away from the city, and were dropped off for the rest of the day on our own.

We were dropped off at George Square, a large public square named for King George III and laid out in 1781 filled with statues of famous Scots

We then walked across the square to the Glasgow City Hall.  Another amazingly beautiful building, on the inside as well as the outside, and we were especially impressed with their beautiful and huge containers of flowers all around the building.

Our next stop was  the 12th century Glasgow Cathedral, also known as St Mungo Cathedral.

An inside view of the cathedral, where we also saw the tomb of St. Mungo, founder and patron saint of the city of Glasgow.

Behind the cathedral, and up a small hill was the Glasgow Necropolis, or "city of the dead" a large medieval cemetery, where numerous well known  Scotts are buried.

A view inside the Necropolis.  no flat headstones here.

We did spot this tomb of the author of "Wee Willie Winkie"

We spent the remainder of our time in Glasgow shopping in the very pedestrian friendly city center.
