Belfast, June 30, 2016

Next stop, Belfast, Northern Ireland.  A city torn by violence for many years, but now in a peaceful period, anxious to show itself off.

We took an escorted walking tour in Belfast, where one of the first things we saw was this interesting modern sculpture.

Then on for a tour of the Belfast City Hall.  An amazingly elaborate and beautiful building that would show up most state capitals in America, as well as some Nations. This building was constructed around the turn of the 20th century.

Inside the City Hall you are greeted with the coat of arms of the city, on the carpet.  We thought the animal on the left looked like an Irish Wolfhound, but were told that it was a wolf, not a Wolfhound.

The Titanic was built in Belfast, and outside of the city hall was this memorial to the many men from Belfast who were on the ship when it sunk.

On a random building in the city, there were a number of busts of famous persons, among which we spotted a rather glum, George Washington.

Continuing our stroll around the wet streets of Belfast we saw what they called the "Leaning Tower of Belfast.  The clock tower, above has a few degrees of list, that was evident.

We walked down streets and alleys and past numerous pubs, along with the one above, with the tandem bicycle.  You can't tell by this picture, but the legs and wheels are moving.

We  then went down into a underground passage, where we saw numerous umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, pointing down at the actual ones that people were using.

Then into a passageway covered with a large murals of famous people all of whom were from Belfast or Northern Ireland.

The final stop on this day's tour was a local pub for a pint.
