Cork, June 27, 2016

Our visit to Cork, was a very full day.  We had an excursion booked, and traveled by bus with a guide, and a great bus driver who sang Irish ballads to us while driving.

Our first stop was at a Charles Fort overlooking the village of Kinsale
The fort was star sharped, and had a commanding view of the bay, and the village below.

One our selfie attempts, before our second selfie stick broke.

A view of Cork as we drove through the city

Our excursion included a wonderful lunch at a hotel in Cork.  In addition to the food, we were treated to Irish dancing and singing.

Our next stop was about a 45 minute drive from Cork to Blarney Castle.

The grounds and gardens around Blarney Castle were very beautiful,  but we didn't go into the castle to kiss the Blarney stone because the lines were well over an hour long.
Another view of the castle

In one section of the gardens around the castle was an area that had a large number of prehistoric looking plants that had huge leaves on them.

Someone kindly took our photo standing in this archway of plants.

There were many unusual plants and flowers around the castle, including the ones pictured above.  There was also a separate area called the Poison Garden that had a collection of dangerous plants and flowers.  Our final stop of the day was a large store in an old woollen mill near Blarney Castle, where we found some amazing bargains on sweaters, and other items.

Did you take an empty suitcase for your purchases?

No but we had an empty back pack that we stuffed on the way back.
