Victoria British Columbia - Day One

We went down to the Ferry at 7am so we could catch the 755am boat to Bainbridge island. Look through the fog and you can see the space needle as the ferry pulls away. It was a very pleasant ride and the fog burned off in the 35 minutes it took for us to get Bainbridge. We drove north crossing the Hood Canal bridge then took 101 up to Port Angeles where we catch the ferry to Vancouver Island.
Leaving Port Angeles behind, we had an hour ride on the ferry to Vancouver Island and Victoria. It is about an hour ride to Victoria, for a minute it felt like we were on a cruise.

Here is the Parliament building. The grounds are open and you can self tour, or join a tour group to see all the high points of the building. You are not allowed to enter the chamber where the sessions are actually held, but can see enough of the beautiful building and learn about the government here.

Yes, we realized we were really in another Country with a different culture and it only took us about 4 hours including the two ferry rides to get here.

This stained glass window in the Parliament building was done to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 50th year on the throne. The guide told us that the Queen and Prince Phillip actually came to Victoria for its dedication. A rare occurrence for the British Colombians.

Inside of the dome in the Parliament building. The structure that is visible in the dome is a spiral staircase that allows access to the outside. I wondered if they didn't somehow use it for security as well.

The legendary Empress Hotel, perhaps tomorrow we will have time for high tea.

To the right in this photo is the Irish Pub where we ate dinner tonight. The food was very good and the wait staff all wore kilts, even the guys!

This is Rogers' Chocolates, a store that has been in the same location for 125 years. The young saleswoman told us that all the woodwork and cabinets are from the original store. It is a beautiful place and the smell is out of this world. Hands down the best chocolate I have ever had, not cheap but worth every penny.
