Frankfurt and Homeward Bond

Our last train trip in Germany, Bamberg to Frankfurt.  Not an ICE train this time because they didn't stop in Bamberg, however all the the German trains are great, and we really loved travelling on them.  Even without knowing a lot of German they were easy to figure out.  We bought some of our tickets at ticket counters inside the stations and others we got from machines inside the stations.  Either way we had no problems.

The huge old train station in Frankfurt.  We chose a lot of our hotels in Germany by their distance from the train stations, and the one in Frankfurt was literally across the street from the station.

Frankfurt is a very large modern city, however it has lots of older sections and many interesting places to explore, unfortunately they will have to wait for our next visit.  It had been a long trip and we were tired and ready to get started on the trip home, so we didn't wander far from our hotel during the short time we were here.

We spent part of the afternoon sampling our last German wine in the hotel bar.

And our last German meal was a hamburger, but a very good hamburger.  It was appropriate because the name of our hotel in Frankfurt was the Hotel Hamburger!  Marlene is using her Google translator to interpret the restaurant menu.

Finally on the next day we took another short train ride from downtown Frankfurt to the Frankfurt International Airport, and after a few hours of waiting and getting thoroughly searched by customs we boarded our non stop flight to Portland.

And with the Mountains of the Northwest in sight out our window we knew we were home.
