Birthday Trip to Reno and Puppy Visit

For my 68th Birthday, we decided to take a road trip.  The destination was two-fold.  The primary target was a Irish Wolfhound Breeder who lives south east of Sacramento California,  We had been talking with her about getting a Wolfhound puppy, and wanted to go down and see them before we made the final commitment.  The secondary destination was a side trip to Reno. for a little birthday fun.

Here we are at are first stop in the morning after we left home.  McDonald's in Salem for a little breakfast.

After about an 11 hour drive on a very hot day we made it to Reno and the Atlantis resort and Casio in the evening, in time for a wonderful birthday dinner, including a nice piece of rich cake.

One of the interesting things we did in Reno, on this trip was to take the better part of an afternoon to take a fascinating tour of the National Car Museum, which used to be the Harrods Car Museum.  This is an amazing collections of automobiles, from the very earliest models, up to recent times.  The car pictured above is a Stanley Steamer.  The one below is a rare Mercedes.

I'm standing in front of a very rare gold plated 1091 DeLorean

I don't remember the name of this car but it is also a very unusual  and rare, fish-tailed 3 wheeled vehicle.   Marlene wants one.

And of course we spent a little time in some of the casinos in Reno.  The one Marlene is standing in front of was the Pepper Mill.  A lot of the older Casinos in downtown Reno are getting pretty run down.

Our second stop of the trip was way out in the country, near a little place called Ione California.  The first thing we saw when we got to the gate was a group of beautiful horses and this very new colt.  They raise horses in addition to Wolfhounds.

Our first look at a gaggle of Wolfhound Puppies.

They were all too cute to make a decision on which one...however we did make one decision;  It will be two, not one......so that they have company.  Our next trip down here will be early July to pick up our new pups.

Reno

We had a enjoyable 11 hour drive to Reno Yesterday. We left at about 7:00AM and arrived at 6:00 PM. That was with several stops along the way including lunch at a very small Indian Casino outside of Klamath Falls, and a cool old General Store in a small very small town in Northern California (don't remember the name).

Marlene and I took turns driving which helped a lot, and we tried out Marlene's new GPS which she got for Christmas. We have one built in the car, but it kept trying to make us go all the way d0wn I-5 to Sacramento, which would have been a lot longer than the way we went though K- Falls, and Susanville.

We are staying in a newly remodeled Peppermill Casino, in the Tuscan Tower part of it...all designed on a Northern Italy theme. Very nice and fancy. Huge room with soaking tub in the bathroom, marble floors, walk in shower, and TV in the Bathroom...all for 85 bucks...great deal we got on Expeidia. The Picture above is looking down at the pool area from our room.

We had a very nice dinner last night as well. Marlene had Prawns and I had Teriyaki Steak..both were very tasty. Then we went to the slot machines for a while. I walked away with 500 bucks in my pocket so, it was a good day all around!
We have two more full days of fun starting today.....
