Eclipse

Last week there was a full eclipse of the moon. I saw it as I was driving home and got home just in time to get this shot as it was going into the final stage....right from our back yard.

Tongue

Sometimes it's very handy to have an extra long tongue. Especially when you are also tall enough to reach the kitchen counter and the kitchen sink...it saves a lot of time waiting around for the humans to put the dish on the floor.

This picture was taken at the beach house in Yachts...and the tongue in question, is Heartman's.

The Trail of Destruction Continues

It's time to update the list of items devoured/chewed by Sailor. We've been trying hard to keep things away from him, but he just keeps finding new and inventive ways to get at a variety of items. For instance, above is the work glove that Sailor modified. This new design is actually very good for those whose thumbs tend to get extra warm when gardening.....Among the new items added to the list on the right are a laundry bag, a heavy rubber door mat, Marlene's ear muffs, and a collectible novel...about Wolf Hounds.....

Heartman Returns

This month we got Heartman back with us. It looks like he is here to stay now. Ann just had too many dogs, and Heartman was just one too many Wolfhounds..and it also didn't help that Heartman loved to bark at the horses on the farm. Well there are no horses here so everything is fine. Of course he has been here for short stays two times in the past so this was like coming home for him and Sailor is ecstatic to have another Wolfhound to play with. Heartman is two years old, so he is not that far from puppy-hood himself, and enjoys rough-housing with Sailor. Sailor chews on Heartman's face without mercy, but Heartman is so very patient with him.

Of course all is not as smooth with Guido. Heartman doesn't back down when Guido tries to boss him around, so there has been a few disagreements between the two. We keep them separate during the day, to make sure nothing too bad happens while we are gone. But for the most part they at least tolerate each other.

Last week we took a long weekend and went to our favorite beach in Yachats. We stayed in the dog-friendly house that we have been to several times before and of course all three dogs came with us. They had a great time, and so did we. Here's a few of the pictures we took of them while we were there. The first one is all three dogs romping on the beach, then WHW and Heartman, then Sailor and Guido and finally Heartman relaxing at the beach house.

More Views of Savannah

Here are a view of the views of Savannah that I saw during my recent visit. Starting at the top:
A cobblestone street along the Savanna River. Lots of interesting shops and restaurants here...but watch your step it's kind of rough walking.
Paula Dean's Lady and Son's Reastaurant - wonderful Fried Chicken and yummy yams.....
A statue along the river front of the fabled, "Waving Girl of Savanna" the story goes that after this young womans love saied off to sea, she greeted ever ship that came into Savanna on the side of the river by waving a towel, hoping her love would be on board....she did this for over 40 years...day and night. Her love never showed up, however.
The old Cotton Exchange Building, along the river front.
A typical old town city street, with beautiful old homes, and Spanish Moss covered, Live Oak Trees.
One of 21 city "squares", little parks that are every two or three blocks.
The old colonial cemetary that was in use from the late 1700's to the mid 1800's. Sherman quarted his horses and troops here after his march to Savanna.
A big city foutain, that was purchaced by the city, by mail order cataloge at he end of the 19th Centruy.
The modern suspension bridge over the Savanna River heading out to North Carolina.
